Dr. Steve Murphree

Dr. Steven T. Murphree is a lifelong Cullman resident, veterinarian, and community leader who serves on the Utilities Board of the City of Cullman. With more than four decades of professional experience and deep roots in the community, Dr. Murphree brings a service-driven mindset and a strong commitment to improving quality of life for Cullman residents.

Dr. Murphree graduated from Cullman High School before continuing his education at Southern Benedictine College and Auburn University. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. After beginning his career in a mixed animal practice in Tennessee, he returned to Cullman in 1985 to establish his own veterinary practice, where he has served generations of families and their pets. Throughout his career, Dr. Murphree has been guided by a simple philosophy: focus on caring for others, and everything else will follow. Known for his honesty, loyalty, and dedication, he has built lasting relationships across the community while making a meaningful impact in the lives of both his patients and their owners.

In addition to his veterinary practice, Dr. Murphree has remained actively involved in professional and civic organizations. He has served in leadership roles within the veterinary community, including as president of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association, and is a member of the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce and the Cullman Lions Club. His involvement reflects a broader commitment to collaboration, service, and strengthening the community as a whole. As a member of the Utilities Board, Dr. Murphree values long-term planning and responsible stewardship of essential services. His approach is rooted in teamwork, thoughtful decision-making, and ensuring that Cullman’s utilities continue to support a growing and thriving community.

Outside of his professional and civic roles, Dr. Murphree enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and photography—particularly capturing landscapes and wildlife. He and his wife, Alisa, have been married for over forty years and have three children and several grandchildren. Their home is also filled with animals, reflecting his lifelong passion for caring for them. Through both his professional work and public service, Dr. Murphree remains dedicated to making a positive difference in the Cullman community.
